As a verizon customer, I didn't run out and get the iPhone for 2 reasons:
1. I figured the iPhone 5 would be out in June
2. Verizon isn't as lenient about moving up your New Every Two date as they used to be.
My contract ends in April 2012, but Verizon told me I can upgrade this December when the iPhone 5 (allegedly) comes out :)

Android will be on more things by the end of the year. iOS is restricted to apple products. But we are already seeing the creativity that people are using android for. Being that it is open source and easy to modify and write on we have many things. Android now powers eReaders, TVs, Video games, and even a microwave

They need to improve the worthless notification system in iOS more than the maps.
never been an issue for me. id rather have better maps stuff, since i use that near daily.

Why do any of you care? None of you are seeing profit or loss in this situation.
Some of you sound pissed, like T.J. Maxx personally offended you by selling cheaper iPads.
Now is a good time to get one if you don't already have one. Stop arguing about warranty, you should be getting Apple care on your idevice anyway.
So... What are you waiting for? Go get one before they run out! Profit or loss is none if your concern.

Agreed. I just spent 55k on 9.6TB of raw fibre channel storage for our 3PAR. That's 16 600GB drives if you were wondering.

So that rally call may not be a good idea.
Being a mod doesn't mean I can't still have a sense of humor, which is all I saw that as. No one's going to have a "battle of the 'tars", I'm just messin', which I'm still allowed to do from time to time you know...

This second version would incoporate Apple's iChat software and may be dubbed "iChat mobile". According to Wu, Instant Messaging (rather than email) would be the focus of the device.
i think i'm missing something. my cheapo sprint phone text messages. my daughters' phones do. the person sitting next to me at the football game yesterday was IM'g. is the ability to IM something that belongs in the second version of an apple phone? how many new phones lack that ability, as the first version iPhone presumably would? i need a perspective. thanks.

Well, actual road map data and satellite data is all provided by the governments. Street view I'm guessing is Googles only. But it would be nice to see a major improvement on maps and roads. Something seems to be missing and if anyone can take it to the next level, it's Apple. Glad to see something in the works.
Notifications... sure, it would be nice to see better, but that's probably coming in iOS 5.0 anyways. Hopefully the first version of iMaps too.
Actually, no its not all provided by 'the governments' . There are non-goverment owned sats that do it as well. There are several, but IKONOS, comes to mind at the moment. This is nothing new, its been this way for over a decade
