    You are obviously missing the point. Apple's new subscription model is preventing choice from coming to it's customers. How is that not a bad thing?

    nope -- its GIVING users choice. why? remember, w/ iOS subscriptions, YOU get to decide who you opt-in to. you, the CUSTOMER.

    clearly, marketeers dont like this. theyd prefer we have NO CHOICE, as its been for decades.

    choice -- "That word you keep using, I do not think it means what you think it means!"

    Amazon wil release a kindle phone around the time android is being abandoned by people tired of all the malware and viruses on their phones.

    iOS and Kindle OS will have the top market shares.

    You need to ask yourselves a questions: How these stores operating? and Why products end up there?

    Apparently, some authorized retailers overstock iPads or could not move projected volume, so they dumped some unsold inventory to Marshalls and TJMax, just to get some cash back, quick.

    Overstocked with iPads??? Not a good news for Steve.

    What is the issue here? iPads are sold in Walmart and Target and nobody complains.

    I think the biggest issue with it comes from the actual Apple authorized retailers. For instance, in my line of work (golf course management), I purchase golf equipment directly from the manufacturers (Callaway Golf, Nike, Titleist, etc). To be able to do that, I HAVE to agree to a minimum advertised pricing (MAP) policy, or I can't buy directly from them nor be listed as a retailer of that company's products (any retailer buying from directly from the manufacturer has to abide by this). If I then saw a major retailer (a competitor) advertising products that I sell for significantly lower than I am allowed to (knowing that all official retailers are supposed to be bound by this agreement to even sell the products as an "authorized retailer"), then I'm going to be pretty upset as to why I have to abide by it to get my goods, when either they (the competitor discounting said merchandise) aren't, or either they are getting a cheaper price (allowing them to sell for a lower price than me, yet still keep similar profit margins). And if they are in violation of this MAP policy, I'm going to damn sure be wondering why the manufacturer (in the iPad case...Apple), isn't going after them (telling them to stop, if they are an authorized retailer), or pulling their account. In the golf business, the manufacturers go hard after companies that violate this MAP policy.

    Red is screwed, yellow is sucky, green is above replacement... You don't want birth rate to drop below 2.1, Turkey the only country above replacement is 2.14...

    Yes, that is an issue for concern. However, how is this relevant to gay rights? Despite the birth rate in the UK being around 2 (1.96 if I remember correctly) there are, sadly, plenty of children/babies in need of a good home. Recently, the law was changed to ensure homosexuals would be able to adopted children if they want. Lesbian couples could also ask for a donor, and gay couples for a surrogate.

    We need to move beyond the idea that marriage is about a man and a women reproducing. Firstly, it isn't about that. Secondly, there is no reason same-sex couples can't raise just as many children as heterosexual couples.

    Hi there,
    I have the new mbp with the 128 gb ssd and thus very limited space. I'd like to install some apps from the app store on a seperate, external hdd (for example games, which I rarely play but don't want to delete).

    How is this possible?

    In Mac OS X 10.6.7...

    Japanese charaters works in Terminal.app while AppleLocale is set to en_US, en_GB or ja_JP.

    But if I do:
    defaults write -globalDomain AppleLocale sv_SE

    and Log out and Log in. Then Terminal.app will display whitespaces instead of the charaters, both if I cat a file or open it in vim.

    To reproduce, in Terminal.app:
    $ cat
    馬鹿たれ
    馬鹿たれ
    <Control+D>

    Vim displays the correct UTF-8 hex values while the cursor is under a japanese character and pressing "g8", but Terminal.app will not display the character.

    If I do not use the swedish locale, the week number will be incorrect, while date(1) displays:
    $ date -v2011y -v4m -v23d '+%U %V %W'
    16 16 16

    All Cocoa apps that uses week number will display 17 /except/ for swedish when they display 16. (For 23rd of April).

    In Terminal.app:
    $ gcc -xobjective-c -framework Foundation -
    #import <Foundation/Foundation.h>

    int
    main(void)
    {

    I thought Lion was supposed to have real full OpenGL 3.x support. However, OpenGL Extensions Viewer (GLView from Realtech) still reports that GLSL 1.3 is not supported, meaning that OpenGL 3.0 is 95% implemented, which is the same as Snow Leopard. Perhaps Apple hasn't yet added full OGL support to the betas? Does anyone have a Lion system with full OpenGL 3.0 implemented?

    This is on a 2010 MBP with an NVIDIA 330M, by the way.

    One thing to note is that this is 12PB of RAW storage. Raid it, add in hot-spares, take into account formatting, and you got yourself 8ish max usable.

    decent amount, but not mind-blowing.

    My problem with it isn't that businesses and people are in it for a profit (well, in certain areas). Hey, you got to make something. It's that the only thing that matters is the highest profit possible, at all costs.

    That's when it's a problem. If you look at Policemen and Firemen, they get paid, they make money, but how much would our costs go up if these entities were for-profit? My guess substantially. Doctors have always have made a profit, they'd have to, to make a living. But it's the degree of profit. Big business seems to be bad for health care as the profit margins rise.

    What's with all the names changes?

    iTools -> .Mac -> MobileMe -> iCloud

    It's not the name that's hindering Apple's online efforts, it's the pricing, features and reliability.

    I just hope they make iDisk as good or better as DropBox. iDisk in its current iteration is just awful.

    I'm with you. iDisk is a clunker and I never use it. Apple would be smart to just buy DropBox. It's perfect.

    My $10 a month ($120 a year) web hosting account has 170 (thats right, 170!) gig of storage, something like hundreds of email accounts, php, ssh access, mysql, more, more and more.

    True, it doesn't do all the fancy stuff that .mac does with sync'ing and so forth. But that isn't my point. My point is that we should expect more, much more for $100 a year because web hosting providers are able to make a profit by offering much more. If the users demand it Apple will come around. But not if people keep paying for the service as-is. So they upgraded the webmail client- great. The eagle really took a ***** today didn't it?

    Does AT&T now give A-list with the 700 minute Nation Family Talk plan? The website has a plus next to it indicating it does?

    Does anyone know for sure?

    I'm curious about this as well. Has anyone with the 700 minute Family Talk successfully gotten the A-List feature? If so, was it online or did you have to call?
