Those who complains about curruption in back home, will NOT try to improve system back home and also in case of GC processing, their contribution will be only "Negative comments" but NO constructive approach to improve ANY systems..

Dear friends, why do you seek to start bashing your country at the first opportunity you get. THere are people in the Indian Govt who are negotiating on your behalf to make sur you get your money back.
THen on the question of paying bribes to get money out of PPF - something is better than nothing. Why complain. If it is so bad, go back and fight to fix the system, otherwise stop maoning. India is the only country that will welcome you if you are kicked out of here. I remember i used to pay 50 INR per ticket for a railway seat, now i go online and book a ticket. Things change they take time and patience.
Only those people who have NEVER bribed anyone to get stuff done illegally, or out of turn should speak. And i know there is no one, since you are in US and came on a passport and we all know how passports are obtained.

I think Meera Shankar needs to be fired. Its bloody 2010 and this is the kind of customer service the indian consulates provide - they dont pick up calls - it takes them a month to issue new passports - Always feel ashamed to be an indian any time I have to deal with these useless consulates.
The Houston consulate does not even have their address properly listed on their website.

And guess what, they would call you and scold you for not sending the envelope and ask you to mail another MO for $20.00. I don't think 15-20% drop in 5 years is speculative at least not in California. CNN Money actually predicts a 31% drop in prices in East Bay of SF Bay Area! This is probably the worst time to get into housing market, at least in CA.
But I agree with quality of life issue. Even the most luxurious apartment does not compare with a house. Having a backyard and a garage are the biggest and the best things that apartments do not have. Also, having your own house gives you a sense of belonging. Renting a house won't give you the same feeling. Also, I know more than one friend who used to rent a house but had to move out because the landlord decided to sell when the lease was over.
So apartment doesn't offer the same lifestyle and renting a home might make you move every few years involuntarily. Best thing to so for those in CA itching to live in a house would be to rent a house that the owner is very unlikely to attempt selling. Any ideas on how to determine what houses are actually just rental property and and not really targeted for sale?

I have contacted local lawmakers and was told that one office is sending a letter to the White House. However, I was not able to get a copy of the letter so I am not sure if that will really happen. I have asked my employer to send a letter as well. I have sent a letter to IV and White House today and have sent out a template to all friends and family in hopes that several of them will send in letters on my behalf. I know of three people that have done it thus far.

Nice story :) I had a clause in my first contract that I had to work for a company at least for 6 months or I will have to reimburse all H1B-related expenses. Well, I left the company and when the company's president called me, just told him to get lost. Never heard from him again. Looking back, I should've sued the company because it did not pay me full salary for the first month while I was on the "bench" (searching for a contract). Well, I am just too lazy :)

Yes, but you are missing the one important fact, that "band aid solution" would put band aid to thousands of hurt people which will sooth them for a while. I understand, your 485 is already in pipeline so you already have those band aids but claiming to be sorry portrayed you very selfish. Think about teh group then you will slowly start forgeting your sorriness.
