I'm pulling this one a bit out of nowhere, but I've once heard that the whole thing with diesel not being popular in the US is a bit of a convenient balance, since you can split petroleum into gas and get diesel as a byproduct, so it's nice to have a balance.

You can have it up to 1000 bhp and still take it down the shops. If I can get one before middle age it'll be in orange, otherwise I'll have it in grey (a la Porsche Sport Classic)
Side profile isn't the best, but other than that, it's a pretty sweet looking piece. The front, in particular, is quite nice.

Anyone know why worldcommunitygrid.org still has v17 for download on their site when v58 is the newest version from Berkeley?
Before I dl v58, I just want to make sure that there is no technical reason why I would have to use v17 to participate in World Community Grid.

The studios want Apple to limit the number of iPods that the downloads can be played on. Do they not realise that the entire point of the iTunes Store is to drive sales of the highly profitable iPods? I cannot see Apple agreeing.

Does anyone have this issue? I cant seem to view macrumors on safari. It works fine on firefox. On safari it works the first time after I clear cache but after that the page views are not as they should be. Not sure how to describe it but its almost like there is no html or structure. This started about a month ago on safari. I know after a safari reset it works but only the first time out. Its a bit of a hassle to go to firefox to use the site. Any help would be appreciated.

I agree on the copying for own use. You should not be limited on something you have purchased. But you put 'profit' at the end of your 'list' that to me means you also sell the copies. That is what I and the movie studios do not agree with. Hence all this red tape crap with music and movie downloads.

Well I was going to get a PB but I just can't see a justification for the price on the 15" 1ghz even if I would prefer portability so I've decided to get a G4 PM. My question is if panther will take advantage of a second cpu, otherwise I'll just get a SP.

The better tidbit from Wikipedia is that Data from Star Trek had a capacity of 100 petabytes. So, Apple has a ways to go until they get something really interesting. iData?

And it's a new one for the dictionary in Chrome on Windows, too. Petabyte gets the little red squiggly underline. But Safari on the Mac is hip to the lingo and knew the spelling.

Of course not this is ignorant knee jerk city here. Most people don't even buy their phones like this, so this impacts a relatively small number of people. The people it probably impacts the most are those gaming the systems for the phones.
This is not some kind of change or charge that is going to impact the majority of AT&T customers in any way.
Of course some dummies will switch to Verizon and be in the exact same boat because they don't think nor do they educate themselves before they speak, write or act.

It's a bit long, but this is a good read about the state of FCP by Philip Hodgetts (http://www.philiphodgetts.com/2010/09/what-should-apple-do-with-final-cut-pro/):

If it was priced more in line with Avid Media Composer or Avid Adrenaline I'll bet dollars to doughnuts it wouldn't have become as popular. Apple's typical method of operation when it comes to the ProApps is buy existing software, rebrand it and drop the price dramatically. The most recent, and most radical example, is Apple Color. Apple took what was previously a $25,000 color grading application and tossed it into the Final Cut Suite at no extra charge.
ProRes has only be around since FCP 6 and is one of the few additional features that Apple can really hang its hat on. While Premiere doesn't have any first part codecs along the same lines as ProRes it is more flexible and open to third party codecs than FCP is. A very good, and very popular, 3rd party codec is CineForm.
