For all those people who haven't been willing to donate to IV until now, let this Immigraton Fee Rise serve as a wake up call.
Do you want to pay $60 to IV now, or pay 10X that amount in June (when filing fee will rise by almost $600 for 485 filing)??
I know some people didn't want to contribute to IV, but now the choice is clear: pay $60 to IV now for its efforts or pay $600 to USCIS in June (where there will be no choice left but to pay up).

Brother, your idea is good but practically it is very difficult.
Do you see a donate progress bar at the top, it took an entire month and lot of pushing to get 10,000 US$ in donation.
People are not willing to donate, many have questions about credibility and what work is being done, some have lost entire hope and hence not willing to donate.
It is like chicken and egg, we are asking people to donate to see change, some are saying change is not there and donation does not make a difference.
If it is so difficult to collect 10,000 US$ a month how can your plan collect 5 million ?
If someone is going to ask you the following questions what are your answers,
1) If i donate 50$ what is the feedback (in terms of info, progress) that i will get?
2) What will you do if the administration thanks us and takes the donation and gives it off to a non-profit education organization. (giving donation does not mean that they will do something for us). Then what do we do.
Instead can we not use that money to lobby for our goals.

Right now the PD is kept at an artificially low range, since neither the USCIS nor the DOS has a clue about how many GCs they are processing. So for the last several years, they were ultimately issuing only around 80,000 GCs even though the quota is 140,000 + 80,000 (from family quota). A wastage of around 140,000 visas per year.
If USCIS can approve a GC after waiting for 120 days (with our with out a response from the FBI), then the GC approval would become much more predictable. Then the PD cut off will be much more realistic, resulting in a much lower wastage of visa numbers.
The end result, the PD would move upward quickly.
If this turns out true, that will be great !!!
One minor side effect is that India EB dates might further retrogress because still there a lot of folks with PD 2001,2002 etc pending namecheck clearance.

Applied for H1B. We already have the H1B approval notices. We also have EAD/AP. Still we got dragged into this.
The H1B sponsoring company is a large and famous Biopharma company with billions in market cap. AOS is also through the I-140 from that company.
Everything is way above board for us. Still we got stuck!
Can you please let know, where is the passport stuck? What country & which consulate.

It is not true that Many people have to wait 10+ years to get gc. May be some people might wait for 10 years because of frequent change of jobs , layoffs and also ignorance of green card processing. Most of the time EB2 waiting time is 2 to 3 years. Indian EB3 is in worst situation but only for past 2 years and before that everything was current. For that also most waiting persons filed I 485 because of July VB issue. In my opinion EB3 PD will be backdated up to 5 years.
Also there is no legistrative activity in Congress about any immigration issue. Always skil bill comes in limelight when congress is in Session. But everyone knows that skil bill is asking too much in H1b and immigration numbers because of exemptions and it will be very difficult task. But no one in pro immigrant community is ready to compromise on numbers. When Congress tries to curb the abuse of H1b even pro immigrants are opposing the bills without any suggestion of any alternatives. If some bill comes for only GC that too moderate increase in numbers that will have bright chance of passing in congress.
You should not expect any rally will produce meaningful reform. It has to be proved that additional immigrant and H1b numbers will produce more jobs and it should not create unemployment in americans.Just sufferings of gc waiters is not enough. My opinion is Rally will be used to show strength of IV and may educate public and Congress. But anti immigrants also doing Similar Campaign(not big rallies) by negative points of immigration. The same congress till the end of 2008 and I doubt they will consider any immigration issue till new congress comes in 2009 that is not too far from now. But it is always good to try all the time.
Before any reform comes most IV members may get GC.

FearOnlyGod it is, do not give into bad employers. I looked up google for complain DOL against employer harassment. If you have email or other proof of his recent harassment it can be added to the same complaint to DOL check more resources you should be getting your pay.

For how long is USCIS issuing the EAD & AP these days?
My EAD got approved in 54 days. Online status went straight from Initial Review to Card Production Ordered. I got the CPO email last Friday (12/10/2010) - still waiting for the card. Not sure about AP as I did not apply for an AP this time.

I-485 is mainly for status change stage to check criminal background (not job related :) ), FP and name check. They won't check much on job.
It is all straight forward and only a time consuming stage. Thats all. Enjoy the AOS pending stage.

I-140 is mainly matching job requirement to employee' skill set and experience and ability to pay for the employer. It does NOT check for out of status issues. I hope you know that person may not be US for I-140 to be approved.

compare that with what happened with visa bulletin fiasco.
I think it was Zoe lofgren who sent a letter with very pointed questions to USCIS. I don't believe they made public their answer or if they answered it at all; and instead of fighting with Senator they reversed course and opened up the visa dates again. (A big part of me thinks that it was pure financial decision. USCIS was going to have fee increase and they realized that they would lose a lot of money but after they did their analysis; they realized their breakeven point was each candidate renewing ead/ap once and they would break even. They would even come out further ahead by allowing the applications because people would be renewing at least three times whereas in old fee structure it was only built in for one renewal).
